CIVIL WAR IN DIARY AND SONG: A CIVIL WAR ROUNDTABLE PRESENTATION

In 1861 Pleasant Mills native, James Davy, joined the army to defend the United States union in the Civil War. He and his fellow recruits, many of whom were from Decatur, traveled to Indianapolis to begin their training. Led by Colonel Slack as a part of the 48th Regiment, they were sent through Kentucky, down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and in 1862 became part of General Grant’s Vicksburg Campaign.

Every day for four years, Davy made entries into his diaries. His great-great grandson, Meredith Wilson, brings those diary entries to life. Experience the Civil War through diary excerpts, background information, Civil War era songs and music. View a display of Davy’s actual 1863 diary and other authentic relics.

Seating is limited, RSVP required by April 5.
