Wheeling, IL – November 5, 2019 –The Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, part of the Franciscan Communities, will be hosting the fall Learning Institute program, “Eliza Jumel: From the Bottom to the Top,” presented in partnership with Harper College, on Friday, November 15, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is one of many enriching and entertaining educational opportunities available to Addolorata Villa residents and all local adults ages 55 and older.

“Rags to riches” stories are common in American history, but this one is exceptional. Eliza Jumel was born in a brothel in the year that the Revolutionary War broke out. She went on to become one of the richest women in New York City. She make a killing in business, befriended Napoleon Bonaparte and married—and divorced—Aaron Burr. Her remarkable rise shows just how much was possible in the young United States.
