Tax Smart Giving Options to Consider When Planning Your Charitable Giving

• Qualified Charitable Donations (QCDs): A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals age 70½ and older to donate directly from a taxable IRA to a qualified charity, excluding the gift from taxable income while helping satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
• Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) acts as a charitable giving account, offering an immediate tax deduction when established, tax-free investment growth and the flexibility to recommend grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofits over time.
• Donating Appreciated Stock: Giving appreciated stock (held for more than one year) to a nonprofit is a tax-efficient way to support your favorite charities, allowing you to avoid capital gains tax and receive a deduction for the stock’s fair market value.

Gifts can be made through your will or living trust and may designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage or the remainder of your estate when other provisions are met. Another means of making an estate gift is by designating Franciscan Ministries as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy.Please consult with your attorney to draft language for your will or living trust.
