Discover the Hoosier Photographer Who Captured World War II – One Shot At A Time
Indiana historian Ray E. Boomhower explores the life and legacy of World War II combat photographer John A. Bushemi. The son of Sicilian immigrants, Bushemi rose from a laborer in Gary’s steel mills to acclaimed photographer, taking images from military training grounds to the front lines of the Pacific Theater. He documented the realities of war with an instinctive ability to capture the decisive moment, earning him the nickname “One Shot,” until he was mortally wounded covering the invasion of Enewetok Atoll in 1944.
Hear the inspiring story of this Indiana native as only Boomhower can tell it while experiencing Bushemi’s powerful images as part of this special presentation.
