According to CMS, the Five-Star Quality Rating System was created to help consumers, families, and caregivers compare nursing home communities. Each community receives an overall rating, as well as separate ratings for health inspections, staffing and quality measures. The Nursing Home Care Compare website assigns ratings ranging from one to five stars, with five stars indicating much above average quality.
